Hear from the Interns from Spring 2009!

Intern Grace Ajayi weighs in about her experience doing the internship!

 Grace Ajayi

"The experience was great and it was nice to show exhibits to little kids and get them involved with science and get them excited about science. I definitely recommend it, if you like science and you want to teach kids about science then you should definitely do the internship."

Grace Ajayi

 Doug Taylor

"My internship was a positive learning experience for me because it not only showed me how much professional educators care about their material, it also offered first hand experience in informal education, outreach, and organization. Working with the MAS was an illuminating experience, to be sure."

Doug Taylor

Elements of the Internship for Fall 2009:

 Podcasts:

The podcasts are probably the most rewarding aspect of the internship. Students will:

  • Choose their topic
  • Do research
  • Get inspired
  • Create a storyboard
  • Write a script
  • Film raw video footage
  • Use iMovie to piece together a 3-5 minute podcast like the ones above

The podcasts will be displayed on the MAS website and shown at the MAS Annual Meeting. They serve as an important way to bring science to the people of Massachusetts in a fun and interactive way.

Blogging:

Blogging is the newest element that will be incorporated into the internship. Each week, interns will update the internship blog both as a class and outside of class, keeping track of their progress. Readers will be able to follow the process of creating their podcasts, catch behind-the-scenes happenings, and read about the personal experiences of each intern as they prepare for and conduct school visits.

View the Internship Blog here.

School Visits:

During the semester, the interns will also learn the process behind visiting k-12 classrooms to give hands-on science demonstrations. The number of visits, as well as their location, are TBA.
